we’re all humans

when did we get to this place?

you are less human than me?

how did that happen?

why can’t we all just have what we need?

why do we need to make fake rules, fake borders, fake hierarchies so that some humans are elevated to mean more in society?

we’re animals, meant to roam and live in the woods and in caves

and yet we used our intelligence to build up so much

so much that tears us down

that says I am better than you

I am more important than you

my needs are more important than yours

I am worth more to society

my children deserve to be fed and housed and yours don’t

you did something wrong

you were born in the wrong place

and your attempts to make things better are wrong

you did it the wrong way

you’re “illegal”

you do not belong here

you are not one of us

we are humans, but you don’t deserve the same

I was born here

I did things right

I deserve what I have

you? you don’t

we create these artificial divisions

to make us feel better

or less bad about ourselves

we contort reality into what we want it to be

we pick sides

we shove people to the other side

we pick angry people to reinforce the sides

we decide people deserve to die if they aren’t the same as us

if they don’t believe in the same things

why are there sides?

we’re humans

there is no difference between you and I

except the place I was born

the family I was born into

all that scripted my fate

who allowed me to be on the “good” side

for now

we divide and we hate and we say horrible things

because what?

what’s the point of this?

you are human and I am human and we both want to be fed

and housed

and loved

and safe

and warm

but not too warm

we both want freedom

from each other

from our minds

from the systems that keep us on sides

we want to be okay

will we be okay?

I’m not sure we will be okay
